children. No doubt when an epidemic comes, as come it will some day, the
majority of these people, not all of whom are anti-vaccinators, will rush to
be vaccinated, as they generally do at such times; although, even then, they
frequently put off the operation until the disease has appeared in their homes,
or even until the infection has already seized them. The Medical Officer of
Health has had a woeful experience during his long professional career of
such procrastination, and has known many persons, now dead, who had too long
delayed protecting themselves and their children. This matter of vaccination
is of vital importance to the nation, and, therefore, it is a sad reflection to
think that the men who rule this country should have allowed such lattitude
to the people, who have been, and are, sadly mislead by a number of faddists,
whom no facts or figures can convince. The German Government are not
so foolish!

In the year 1912, which is the year under consideration, it was found that
of the 7,878 children born, 491 died unvaccinated. so that there remained 7,387
who were liable to the operation, and of these only 3,995, or 541 per cent.
were vaccinated.
Insusceptibility.—15 infants were reported as being insusceptible to
vaccination.
Died Unvaccinated.—491 infants died before vaccination could be
performed.
