NON-NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES AMONG THE
CHILDREN ATTENDING THE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
These reached the high figure of 5,333 cases, which is the largest number,
with two exceptions, hitherto notified by the teachers of the schools. They
compare with 5,986 in 1912, and with an average of 4,395 in the 10 years
1903-1912, and are, therefore, 938 in excess of it. It need hardly be noted
that inquiries into these cases largely increase the work of the Public Health
Department.
Measles.—1,272 cases were notified, as against 1,377 in 1912 and
with 1,698 in 1911, and with a decennial average of 1,443.
Chicken Pox.—Compared with the preceding year, the 731 notified
cases showed a decrease of 429, although they were 104 above the average
of the preceding 10 years.
Whooping Cough.—578 case were reported, or 107 less than the
average of the years 1903-1912. They are also 316 below the return for 1912.
