Tuberculous Meningitis.—This disease of the brain accounted for 726
deaths, of which 564, or 77.6 per cent., occurred among children under five
years of age, of whom 185 were infants under twelve months old (25.4 per
cent.) and 378 (52T per cent.) from one to four years old.
Abdominal Tuberculosis, which is also a disease of child life, caused
in the ten years 383 deaths, of which 315, or 82.2 per cent., were those of
children who had not attained to their fifth year.
Generalized Tuberculosis was responsible for 256 deaths, of which
163, or 63'7 per cent., died in the first four years of their life.
Other forms of Tuberculosis, such as those which attack the bones,
the joints, the skin, or certain internal organs, were accredited with 131
deaths, which were fairly distributed at the several age periods of life.
Proportion of Deaths at several Age Periods.— In my Annual
Report for 1911 (page 116) I gave the following statement as the result of
the analysis of ten years' statistics :—

appreciated.
