Disinfecting Station.—The amount of work done at the Disinfecting
Station was considerable, for no less than 69,509 large articles were disinfected,
as compared with 88,999 in 1911, 83,786 in 1910, 68,860 in 1909, 62,455 in 1908,
and 30,083 in 1907. The large increase in recent years is due to the fact
that, during the last four, a firm, who export second-hand garments or condemned
military uniforms, mostly the latter, have had their goods disinfected
by the Council, paying for the work, to entitle them to a certificate, required
by foreign or Dominion Governments, that they have been disinfected.
The actual number of garments or other articles, bedding, etc., removed
from the homes of residents, disinfected after exposure to infectious disease
or contamination by vermin was 37,217, as compared with 37,600 in 1911, 27 168
in 1910, 37,273 in 1909, and 36,106 in 1908.
