attending the various schools it became necessary to prevent a large number
of other children from attendance at them; thus 1,391 children were excluded
because of Scarlet Fever in their homes or in the houses in which they
resided; 909 children were excluded because of Diphtheria, and 9 because of
Enteric Fever. Altogether 2,309 children were ordered to remain away
from school on account of these diseases in their homes.

infectious diseases, together with the number of scholars excluded, are giver
in Table XCIII.
