DEATHS IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.
Within the Borough. 1,693 persons died in the Public Institutions
located in Islington, of whom 1,184 belonged to this Borough, the remaining
509 having come here for treatment or relief. Among the latter were 338
persons who died in the Holborn Infirmary, and 101 in the Great Northern
Central Hospital, 13 in the Islington Infirmary, 3 in the London Fever
Hospital, 5 in St. Pelagia's Creche, and 10 in the Memorial Cottage Hospital.
Of the 1,184 deaths of inhabitants, 846 occurred in the Islington Infirmary,
177 in the Islington Workhouses and Schools, and 127 in the Great Northern
Central Hospital. The proportion which the 1,184 deaths bore to the Borough
mortality was 25.3 per cent
Without the Borough.—760 deaths of persons belonging to Islington
were registered as occurring in Public Institutions in districts of London outside
the Borough. They included, among others, 56 in the North-Eastern
Fever Hospital, 53 in the Children's Hospital, Great Ormond Street, 82 in
St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 53 in the Colney Hatch Asylum, 41 in the Royal
Free Hospital, 32 in the University College Hospital, and 17 in Claybury
Asylum.
These 760 deaths represented 16.2 per cent, of all the deaths registered
in the year.
Within and without the Borough.—The deaths of Islingtonians in
Public Institutions numbered 1,944, and were equal to 41.5 per cent, of the
total deaths registered during the year.
Fatal accidents or sudden deaths outside the Borough.—
One hundred and one inhabitants died from accidental deaths, or suddenly, in
places outside Islington.
