Of the total number of notifications received (1,277) during the year under
the Regulations, 424, or 23.4 per cent., were merely notices of transfer of
patients from one institution to another. Thus from Holborn Workhouse,
Shepherdess Walk, which is situated without the borough, 311 cases were transferred
to Holborn Infirmary, which is situated within the borough, while 93cases
were transferred from the Islington Workhouse to the Islington Infirmary,
both within this borough, and 20 cases were transferred from Cornwallis Road
Workhouse to Islington Infirmary. From these figures it will be seen that a
large percentage of the notifications were of little utility from a public health
point of view.
The following are the particulars as to the persons from whom the certificates
were received:—
Islington Infirmary Medical Officer 270
Islington Workhouse Medical Officer 26
District Medical Officers 239
Islington Relieving Officers 2
