TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARIES.
The work of the Tuberculosis Dispensaries has been exceedingly useful,
and during the year 1,345 persons were examined by the Tuberculosis Officers.
The patients made 6,570 attendances. The Northern Dispensary, at the Great
Northern Central Hospital, Holloway Road, N., was not opened until May, so
that it was only working for eight months, while the Southern Dispensary, at
the Royal Hospital for Diseases of the Chest, City Road, E.C. was in full
operation throughout the year.
At the Northern Dispensary there were 628 new cases, and at the
Southern 717, while the attendances at the former were 2,279 and at the
latter 4,291. The examination of contacts with tuberculous cases showed
that 20 were suffering from tuberculosis, 55 were suspect, and 293 were not
suffering. The nurses of the Northern Dispensary paid 925 visits, and those
of the Southern 1,620, to the homes of the patients, while the Tuberculosis
Officer of the Northern Dispensary made 112 visits and of the Southern 128
visits to the patients' homes for the purpose of examining their patients.
