Without the Borough.—848 deaths of persons belonging to Islington
were registered as occurring in Public Institutions in districts of London
outside the borough. They included, among others, 25 in the NorthWestern
Fever Hospital, 56 in the Children's Hospital, Great Ormond Street,
82 in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 62 in the Colney Hatch Asylum, 43 in
the Royal Free Hospital, 31 in the University College Hospital, 51 in the
North-Eastern Fever Hospital, 19 in the Middlesex Hospital, and 52 in the
Claybury Asylum.
These 848 deaths represented 18.4 per cent, of all the deaths registered
in the year.
Within and Without the Borough.—The deaths of Islingtonians
numbered 2,231, and were equal to 48.5 per cent, of the total deaths registered
during the year.
Fatal Accidents or Sudden Deaths outside the Borough.—
Sixty-nine inhabitants died from accidental deaths, or suddenly, in places
outside Islington.
Deaths from the principal Epidemic Diseases.—291 persons died
from these diseases; and their deaths represented a death-rate of 0.97 per 1,000
of the civil population, as contrasted with a decennial average of 401 deaths anda
death-rate of 1.23 per 1,000. It is the lowest death-rate from these diseases
hitherto recorded in the Borough. In London there were 4,815 deaths from
the same diseases, representing a death rate of 1.20 per 1,000 of the civil
population, while in the Boroughs encircling Islington the death rate was 1.34.

INFLUENZA.
Influenza caused 36 deaths, and were the same in number as in 1916.
They represent an annual death rate of 0.12 per 1,000 of the civil population
as contrasted with a mean decennial rate of 0.16 per 1,000,
