TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARIES.
The work of the Tuberculosis Dispensaries has been very satisfactorily performed.
Dr. McFarland, the Tuberculosis Officer for the southern portion of Islington, and
Dr. Comyn, the Tuberculosis Officer for the northern portion, have been constantly in
touch with the Public Health Department, and co-ordination has thus been most
satisfactorily maintained. I have to thank personally these two Assistant Medical Officers
(Tuberculosis) for the good results obtained.
During the year 1,181 persons were examined by the Tuberculosis Officers, and the
patients made 9,956 attendances.
At the Northern Dispensary there were 600 new cases, and at the Southern 581, while
the attendances at the former were 3,297 and at the latter 6,659. The examination of
contacts with tuberculous cases showed that 30 were suffering from tuberculosis, 33 were
suspect, and 396 were not suffering. The nurses of the Northern Dispensary paid 1,222
visits, and those of the Southern 2,398, to the homes of the patients, while the Tuberculosis
Officer of the Northern Dispensary made 215 visits, and of the Southern 377 visits to the
patients' homes for the purpose of examining them.
