The other cases were warned.
In spite of the attention drawn in the Press, several of these prosecutions having been
reported, it was a little disconcerting that an Inspector from Islington should discover
that at the Dairy Show in the Royal Agricultural Hall, early in October, 1922, leaflets
were distributed and free samples given, of both colouring matter and preservative,
recommended to be added to milk without any warning that the sale of such milk would
be illegal.
A representative from the firm responsible, after attention had been called to the
matter, interviewed the Medical Officer of Health, but no satisfactory explanation has
so far been forthcoming.
No action could be taken in respect of such propaganda, for although it is illegal
to sell milk with colouring matter or preservative, it is not illegal to sell or recommend
the colouring matter or preservative for addition to milk.
