ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
of the
STRAND DISTRICT
of
THE CITY OF WESTMINSTER.
The following Report deals with the District as it existed under
the Strand Board of Works, but special mention is made to
deaths and cases of infectious disease which have occurred in
those parts which have been the subject of transfer between the
City of Westminster and the Borough of Holborn.
Population.
Prom the changes which are taking place in this District, it
is impossible to determine with accuracy the figures which best
represent the population of the District. The estimate of the
Registrar-General, based upon the rate of decrease in tbe period
between the last two census years, is, for tbe year 1900, 22,748;
but to this figure there must be added those persons who are
resident in the various Poor-Law establishments at Edmonton
and elsewhere, and who add considerably to the deatb rate of
