St. Margaret and St. John, Westminster,
DURING THE MONTH OF JULY, 1858,
by
BARNARD HOLT, F.R.C.S.
Medical Officer of Health.
To the Members of the District Board of Works.
Gentlemen,
I have the honor to inform you that the
number of Births registered during the present month has been
82 Males and 72 Females—making a total of 154; while the
Deaths for a similar period have been 69 Males and 49
Females, or a total of 118. The number of Deaths registered
for the same month last year was 109, and the average of the
previous 10 years is 139-8. From the present return must
however be deducted 4 as belonging to other parishes, and 3
as deaths from accident, thus reducing the actual number to
111, or 2 more than last year, which may still further be
reduced if increase of population be considered, which would
make the 10 years' average 142, showing a decrease as
referrable to July of 31 Deaths. The month has however been
proverbially unhealthy, as is shown by the Registrar General's
remarks, and a comparison with parishes of a similar size.
