MENTALLY DISORDERED PATIENTS
The number of patients referred to the Mental Health section during 1970 totalled 1,769; (19691,685).
Six hundred and thirty two patients were admitted to psychiatric hospitals - informally or
compulsorily (1969 - 670); 736 patients were received into community care (1969 - 652). All other
cases were investigated and appropriate assistance was given. In addition, 300 patients came to
City Hall for help and guidance.

In addition there are 16 subnormal and severely subnormal children in care of the Children's

OTHER SERVICES FOR SUBNORMAL AND SEVERELY SUBNORMAL PATIENTS
Day Training Centres for Junior and Senior Trainees
Ebury Bridge Training School, S. W. 1.
Twenty eight children are in attendance at this school and there are a number of children to be
admitted early next year.
St. Judes Elder Girls Training Centre, Lancefield Street, W. 10.
This centre accommodates 20 senior trainees and a full complement has been maintained throughout
the year.
In addition to trainees placed at the City Council's Training School/Centre there are 45 Westminster
children and adults (1969 - 45) attending training centres maintained by other Authorities:—

Socialisation Course for Educationally Subnormal School Leavers
Pengwern Hall, Rhuddlan, Flintshire
One Westminster patient attended the 12 week course at Pengwern Hall this year (1969 - 1).
The National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children arrange these courses for young adults in
need of guidance in coping with employment and other aspects of social life.
Organised Annual Holiday for Trainees
St. Mary's Bay Holiday Camp, Dymchurch
Thirteen Westminster trainees enjoyed two weeks holiday at Dymchurch in May, which was
arranged as usual by the Medical Officer of Health for Hammersmith. The City Council much
appreciates the work undertaken by members of the staff of the Hammersmith Council in this respect.
