Nursery Staff
Thirty-two nursery nurse students were employed by the City Council and were undergoing
training during 1969. Four nursery nurses were successful in the Course for Qualified Experienced
Nursery Staff which qualifies for appointment as Nursery Warden. One Deputy Matron attended a
residential refresher course.
Nursing Staff
One assistant nursing officer attended a residential middle management course and was complimented
on her contribution to its success; six health visitors attended a field work instructor course,
and four took part in refresher courses.
Administrative and Clerical Staff
Four members of the administrative and clerical staff attended courses on clerical and office
management arranged by the Chiswick Polytechnic; the Chief Administrative Officer attended a
three-week management course for Chief and Senior Officers organised by the Portsmouth College
of Technology, and accompanied the Medical Officer of Health at a computer course organised by
LAMSAC.
The London Boroughs' Training Committee arranged a variety of courses for members of the
Health, Welfare and Children's Departments of the London Boroughs. The majority of the courses
were for social workers, but courses were also arranged for health education officers, nursing and
nursery staff, home help organisers, health visitors, and hostel and training centre staffs. The Health
Department took advantage, as far as staffing commitments allowed, of all the courses and seminars
appropriate to Health Department staffs, and some 30 courses were attended by one or more members
of the department's staff.
In addition to the above courses, various members of the staff were given the opportunity of
attending courses of short duration (half day or single day) and conferences which were available in
London, dealing with a variety of subjects.
