Those in category (i) have had in all samples so far examined a degree
of acidity in which germs of disease will not grow, whereas those in (ii)
are not so acid, and in consequence are more likely to be a potential
vehicle for infection.
All samples were also submitted for chemical analysis, and in every
case the quality was reported to be satisfactory.
There is only one manufacturer of ice lollies in AVestminster.
Milk (Special Designation) Regulations, 1960
These Regulations came into force on the 1st October, 1960, and
consolidated and re-enacted with amendments the Milk (Special
Designation) (Raw Milk) Regulations, 1949 to 1954, and the Milk (Special
Designation) (Pasteurised and Sterilised Milk) Regulations, 1949 to 1953.
The principal changes so far as the City Council is concerned relate to
the simplified licensing procedure, which, from 1st January, 1961
authorises in a single form of licence the sale of "designated"
milks obtained by dealers in the container in which it is supplied to the
consumer. The licence is for five years from the 1st January, and permits
the sale of milk both inside as well as outside the area of a licensing
authority.
Other forms of licence are specified where pasteurisation and sterilisation
of milk is carried out at the distributor's premises, and where raw
tuberculin tested milk is obtained for re-sale.
Conditions laid down under previous regulations for the Methylene
Blue test for tuberculin tested milk and pasteurised milk have been
modified and a new phosphatase test for pasteurised milk is prescribed.
A revision of the sampling procedure now requires containers to be
resealed after sampling has been carried out.
There are no milk pasteurisation or sterilisation plants in Westminster.
