Each such outbreak usually involves much enquiry by officers of my
department in an effort to trace the cause. Even should this prove
unsuccessful, suggestions and recommendations can often be made to
those engaged in the handling and preparation of food, or to those
responsible for the maintenance of the premises, which may obviate or
help to minimise the possibility of further outbreaks.
As a result of these investigations, it was possible to give an indication
of the probable causative organism in three of these cases, and confirm
it in a further two.
