numbered 167 at 31st December, 1954.

Food and Drugs Act, 1938, Section 9. The following table shows the amount of food condemned as unfit for human consumption during the year:—

Food and Drugs Act, 1938, Sections 17 and 18.
The following return was made to the Ministry of Health in accordance
with the requirements of Appendix D (I) of the revised Memo. 188/Med/49
giving details of food poisoning notifications received during the year
and returned to the Registrar General.

Of those notified, eight related to individual cases and the remainder
concerned a family of three who were affected with food poisoning
symptoms, after a meal at a restaurant, the cause of which remained
undiscovered.
In addition to the above, several other cases of persons affected with
illness of a food poisoning nature came to the knowledge of this department
during the year. None of these was officially notified. In one
case the cause of illness was established, but in the others it was not.
