There are altogether some 6,200 shops in the City, of which 1,905 have
already been inspected since the Act came into force. Routine primary
inspections necessarily take their place in the day to day work of the
department. Certain types of shop require more attention by way of
re-inspections than others to see that suitable heating and ventilation
are maintained.
Rent Restriction Acts, 1920-33.—During the year 18 applications
were received for the registration of decontrolled premises on certificates
granted by the County Court under Section 2 (4) of the Act of 1933.
The number of "dwelling-houses" included in those applications
totalled 69.
Certificates of registration or non-registration, which local authorities
are required to grant on payment of a fee of 1s., were issued in 70 cases,
68 being in respect of registered houses and two non-registered. There
were no cancellations of registration by the County Court.
Public Health (London) Act, 1936.—This Act, which came into force
on the 1st October, 1936, was introduced for the purpose of consolidating
various enactments relating to public health in London. It re-enacts
the principal provisions of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, and
amending Acts, which are wholly repealed, and includes provisions of
a public health character, previously included in many other Acts, e.g.,
the Metropolitan Management Acts, various London County Council
(General Powers) Acts, Children and Young Persons Acts, and others
relating to Baths and Wash-houses, Common Lodging Houses, Cleansing
of Persons, etc.
