Paris to Victoria Station. The service was inaugurated on the 14th
October, 1936, the ferry trains arriving at Victoria Station each morning
at about 9 a.m. All aliens arriving by this service are subjected to visual
medical inspection, and where considered necessary by the Medical
Inspector or Immigration Officers have to be medically examined.
It was found necessary to appoint assistant medical inspectors for
this work, and with the consent of the Westminster Hospital authorities
the Medical Registrar and Assistant Medical Registrar (Dr. D. Ferriman
and Dr. E. A. Hardy) were appointed to carry out the actual inspection, on
the assumption that the services of each would be required for approximately
one hour every day throughout the year. In order to provide for
emergencies such as might be encountered by delay in the arrival of the
train, the Deputy Medical Officer of Health was also appointed Assistant
Medical Inspector.
The time of arrival of the ferry train at Victoria Station at first was
not to schedule, but towards the close of the year became more regular,
arriving about 9 a.m.
The medical arrangements have worked smoothly and without difficulty
and the following are particulars of the work carried out up to the end
of the year:—
