* Begun October, 1936.
Certain changes were made with regard to these clinics during the
year. In earlier years the women's and the children's clinics at the Ebury
Bridge and Bessborough Street Centres were conducted by the same medical
officer. In 1936 the clinics were completely separated, each being placed
in the charge of a part-time medical officer, who is a specialist in the
particular subject.
A new women's clinic was also started at the Marshall Street Centre,
and thus the Council's ante-natal services now cover the whole area of
the City. These clinics deal with post-natal as well as with ante-natal
cases, so the term women's clinics is to be preferred.
These clinics are held at the following times:—
Ebury Bridge Friday, 4 p.m.
Bessborough Street Tuesday, 2 p.m.
Marshall Street Tuesday, 10.30 a.m.,
fortnightly.
Westminster Health Society Thursday, 2 p.m.,
monthly.
Ante-natal clinics are also held at Charing Cross, St. George's, Westminster
and Middlesex Hospitals for mothers who have made arrangements
for their confinements with these hospitals.
Institutional Provision for Mothers and Children.
Maternity Beds for Complicated Cases and for those with Unsuitable
Home Conditiom.—By agreement with Westminster Hospital the Council
has the right of admission for cases recommended through its welfare
centres to beds in Westminster Hospital up to 100 patients per
annum.
