Five of the negative cases were known or believed to have had protective
treatment elsewhere.
One hundred and twenty-eight cases who had previously been treated
were re-tested during the year. Two of these were still positive and
received further doses of the protective material. A third was doubtful
but further treatment was not desired. The remaining 125 cases gave
negative results.
Antitoxin, for use in cases of diphtheria, is provided free of chargc
for medical practitioners attending patients residing in the City. The
supply is available on application at the City Hall and at the Coroner's
Court in Horseferry Road.
Enteric Fever.—There were 12 cases of typhoid and paratyphoid
which came to the knowledge of the department during 1936. Of these,
3 were notified as paratyphoid and 9 as typhoid.
The case rate for England and Wales was 0.06 and for Westminster
0.09. No death occurred.
Measles.—The following table shows the number of cases notified
by head teachers of schools, hospitals and private practitioners during
the last five years :—
