The legitimate births show an increase of 45 and the illegitimate an
increase of 22 on the figures of 1933.
As shown in Table II, 1,567 notifications of births were received by
the department for 1934 as compared with 1,615 in 1933. Of the total
notifications, 483 were sent by midwives, of whom 30 were practising
in the City during 1934.
The following table shows the number of male and female children
born since 1918, and those who did not survive the first year of life, with
the number of the surviving children at the end of the first year of life:β€”
