The following report and tables of statistics required by the
Ministry of Health are submitted by Dr. Ian S. Thomson, Tuberculosis
Officer and Assistant Medical Officer of Health.
CITY OF WESTMINSTER TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARY.
Annual Report, 1933.
The work of the Dispensary has been continued throughout the year,
without any marked change in the routine.
Four hundred and twelve new cases were seen by the Tuberculosis
Officer during the year, as compared with 484 in 1932, and 400 in 1931.
These annual figures vary with the notification rate in Westminster and
with the incidence of influenza and bronchitis colds. Epidemics of such
diseases increase the numbers of eases sent to the Dispensary for observation
and diagnosis. The proportion of the available tubercular cases
which attend the Dispensary each year remains very constant.
One hundred and ninety seven of the new cases seen by the Tuberculosis
Officer were considered to be tubercular, although not all at an active
stage of the disease. There were also 47 cases recommended for institutional
treatment by general hospitals. Necessary action with regard to
these cases was taken by the Dispensary stall and the Tuberculosis Care
Committee, and many of them will attend the Dispensary when their
institutional treatment is completed.
