Legal Proceedings for Adulteration.—Of the 4 adulterated samples,
3 were considered sufficiently serious to warrant prosecution. Details of
the offences and results of proceedings are set out below.

6 per cent, of fat abstracted £2 0s. 14.s. 6d.
8 per cent, of added water £3 0s. —
35 per cent, of fat abstracted Summons dismissed £5 5s.
(Probation of Offenders
Act)
Notices were served in two instances for not having any name or
address on the Vendors' barrows. The infringements were remedied
without any legal actions being taken.
Condensed Milk Regulations, 1923-1927.
Fifty-one samples were taken, and were found to be properly
labelled and genuine, except one, which was an " informal" sample and
deficient in fat to the extent of 1*9 per cent. Formal sample genuine.
Dried Milk Regulations, 1923-1927.
Seven samples were taken, two of which were reported adulterated.
These 2 samples were proprietary articles sold as "humanised milk."
The analyst reported the samples to be " adulterated " owing to the fact
that the percentage of fat was less than the amount normally found in
" humanised milk " formulae.
The manufacturers were communicated with and stated in their
reply that the low fat content of the product was compensated by the
addition of Vitamin D., and also by reason of the fact that the constitution
of the product is specially designed for treating cases of fat intolerance
in infants. The matter was not further pursued.
