The legitimate births show a decrease of 30 and the illegitimate an
neiviiso of 17 on the figures of 1928.
As shown in Table I, 1,532 notifications of births were received by
the Department for 1929 as compared with 1,404 in 1928. Of the total
of notifications, 960 were sent by midwives, of whom 31 were practising
in the City during 1929.
The following Table shows the number of male and female children
liorn since 1914, and those who did not survive the first year of life, with
Uto number of the surviving children at the end of the first year of life :—
