Bacteriological examination of milk.—The question was raised as to
whether milk obtained from automatic machines was liable to contamination
in a greater degree as compared with that sold over the counter
or delivered in the ordinary way. Samples from four such machines in
different districts were submitted to the City bacteriologist. He reported
as follows:—

There was no evidence suggestive of abnormal contamination and the
samples were considered satisfactory.

Legal Proceedings for Adulteration.—Of the 53 cases, 14 were considered sufficiently serious to warrant prosecution. Details of the offences and results of proceedings are set out below.
