Nursing of Cases of Illness connected with Pregnancy.—An important
and very necessary extension of nursing services was effected by the
Council in the early part of the year. Formerly, although nursing
facilities had been provided for all cases of illness in children under five
years of age and also for lying-in women suffering from peurperal fever
and puerperal pyrexia, there were none for women suffering from other
complications consequent upon confinement or for illness connected
with pregnancy. Cases of this nature may not necessarily be serious, but
a great many, as, for example, cases of breast abscess, require skilled
nursing. Arrangements which were approved by the Ministry of Health
were made with the three nursing associations for the" nursing of these
cases.
