The following statistics are forwarded by the Registrar-General for the information of the Medical Officer of Health
in connection with paragraphs 6 and 7 and Appendix II of the Circular 834, dated the 15th December, 1927, addressed to
Local Authorities from the Ministry of Health.
A summary of the vital statistics for England and Wales, London, and the respective aggregates of the Great and Smaller
Towns for the year 1927 :—

Birth-rate, Death-rate and Analysis of Mortality during the year 1927. (Provisional figures. The rates have been calculated on a population estimated to the middle of 1927. The mortality rates refer to the wholo population as regards England and Wales, but only to civilians as regards London and the groups of towns. As the registration of stillbirths did not come into operation until 1st July, 1927, no stillbirths are included.)

* The Coroners (Amendment) Act, 1920, which came into operation on the 1st May, 1927, provided for the registration of deaths on a certificate of the
