The legitimate and illegitimate births are distributed as follows:—

The legitimate births show a decrease of 194 and the illegitimate 13
on the figures of 1926.
As shown in Table I, 1,205 notifications of births were received by
the Department for 1927 as compared with 1,402 in 1926. Of the total
of notifications, 608 were sent by midwives, of whom 31 were practising
in the City during 1927.
The following Table shows the number of male and female children
born since 1914, and those who did not survive the first year of life, with
the number of the surviving children at the end of the first year of life:—
