both legitimate and illegitimate infants equally. Of the 76 legitimate
infants' deaths, 25 were certified as from prematurity, and of the 20
illegitimate, 6 were from the same cause.
Only in 12 cases of death from Prematurity does there appear to be
a definite cause attributable in each instance. The reports from the
health visitors resulting from visits of inquiry indicate that in—
2 cases Mother suffered from kidney disease.
1 case Shock before confinement.
1 case Too strenuous work before confinement.
1 case Severe fall before confinement.
1 case Placenta Prævia.
1 case Accidental hæmorrhage.
1 case Contracted pelvis—Cæsarean Section.
1 case Pernicious vomiting of pregnancy with albuminuria.
1 case Due to Syphilis.
1 case Excessive mental worry.
1 case Displacement of womb and overwork.
