At the end of the year two of the infants were still under treatment.
Vision was unimpaired in the remaining 33; two of these died subsequently,
one from prematurity and one from syphilis.
The confinements were conducted by medical practitioners in 12
cases, by midwives in 15 and eight took place in an institution. In
five instances the infants were illegitimate.
In addition to these 35 cases, instances of slight inflammation of
the eyes were recorded in 25 infants, and appropriate treatment secured
for them.
81 visits were paid in these cases by the Health Visitors and 280
by District Nurses called in to assist.
Infant Medical Inspection.—Clinics for this purpose are held at each
of the Centres and show an increased attendance at Bessborough Street,
Rochester Row and Greek Street. At Rochester Row Centre it has been
found necessary to devote a third afternoon per week for this work.
Details of attendances are given in the accompanying table.
