Divided into legitimate and illegitimate, the figures for 1922 are:—

Legitimate—
Males627- 24 + 239 = 842
Females635-28 + 254 - 861
Total.. 1,262 - 52 + 493 = 1,703
Illegitimate—
Males44-16 + 70— 98
Females41-13+ 66= 94
Total85 —29 + 136 = 192

There is a slight reduction in the net number of births compared with
the year 1921, confined to legitimate births. In the Pimlico and North areas
there is, however, an increase in the number of births, while in St. Margaret
and St. John's area there is a decrease. It will be noted that the number
of mothers who go out of Westminster to be confined in institutions has
increased considerably in the last three years. To the above figures
there should be added 7 foundlings, 5 males and 2 females whose births
were not registered.
The notifications received numbered 1,046, of these 739 were received
from midwives.
The number of still-births notified was 26, but information was received
of 17 other still-births and miscarriages.
