1,210 intimations of nuisances (exclusive of smoke nuisances), &c.,
and 45 statutory notices were issued; 1,626 letters were written.
Police Court proceedings had to be resorted to in respect of 12 properties,
and in one case for the non-removal of an accumulation of manure.
In one of the cases the defendant failed to comply with the Magistrate's
order to abate the insanitary conditions in his house within one
month, and was fined £5 or one month's imprisonment.
Plans.—602 sets of plans were examined during 1920. Of these
53 were plans of new buildings, several of these buildings being very large
and covering large sites.
Failure to send in plans or to give notice occurred in 33 instances, and
to send in plans in 41 instances.
Prosecution occurred in three instances and penalties were inflicted:
£2, £2 and £1 1s. costs, £5 and £2 costs.
Infringement of By-laws in connection with erection or alteration
of buildings, 18.
Revenue Act.—One application for certificate under this Act, which
gives relief from the payment of Inhabited House Duty, was received
and granted.
Water Supply.—Fourteen notices of withdrawal of water supply were
received from the Metropolitan Water Board. It was reinstated on notice.
The reasons given for cutting off the supply were: house empty, 1;
non-payment of rates, 13.
Additional water supply to tenement houses was provided in 69
instances.
