used in a greater proportion than 1 grain per pint in liquid.
Lemon Squash.—4 samples were taken and 2 contained salicylic
acid, one 7.5 grains and one 4.9 grains per pint. The vendor's attention
was called to the result of the analysis.
Lime juice.—4 samples were taken and 2 contained salicylic acid,
one 3.67 grains and one 1.6 grains per pint. The vendor's attention
was also called to the result of the analysis.
Muscade Wine.—1 sample was taken, for test purposes, and found
to contain 0.5 grain salicylic acid per pint.
Ginger Beer.—Twelve samples were taken during the year, 3 were
drawn from the cellar by means of an engine, and 9 direct from wooden
barrels by means of wooden taps. All the samples were reported as
genuine; no lead, salicylic acid or other injurious substance being found.
