It will be noted that, although the total number of births is less
than in previous years, there is a considerable increase in illegitimate
births.
The birth-rate calculated on the number of married women in
Westminster, distinguishing the legitimate and illegitimate, shows more
exact rates.
45 in Westminster is estimated to be 17,967, and the unmarried and
widows at the same age-period 38,343.
