Revenue Act.
Certificates under this Act relieve the recipient from the payment
of Inhabited House Duty. Applications were received by me in 5
instances comprising 40 tenements, and 1 application for 4 tenementswas
outstanding at the end of the year pending structural alterations.
Certificates were granted in each instance. The premises for which
certificates were granted are:—
83, 87 and 91, Victoria Street (Marlborough
Mansions).
6 and 7, Cowley Street.
13, 35 and 48, Greycoat Gardens.
1, Robert Street, Strand.
152, Vauxhall Bridge Road.
120, Wardour Street.
Such certificates were intended as a stimulus to property owners to
improve the condition of tenement houses, but in several of the above
the accommodation for which application was made was intended for
servants and caretakers in blocks of high-class mansions.
