been served, evidence will be given that the attention of the defendant
has been expressly called to Sub-section 8."
Unsound Pies.—On several occasions complaints have been made in
this and other districts, that pork and other pies which have been sold in
public-houses have turned out bad. Careful inspection has been made
regularly at places where such pies are made, and it has always been
found that the greatest care is taken in the manufacture; that the
manufacturers call several times a week on their customers, and are
always willing to exchange pies left on a previous occasion for fresh
ones. The fault appears to be rather in the manner in which their
commodities are kept in the retail shops; placed in a shop window with
the gas burning all the evening, or on a bar counter, even when under
a glass cover, the conditions are as favourable as can be for the introduction
and growth of organisms.
