17 of them over 60. As I remarked last year, the large
number of deaths from diseases of the lungs is no doubt
attributable to a certain extent, to the results of attacks
of this disease.

Cases of Infectious Diseases.

The following table shows the number of cases certified by Medical Attendants in 1890 and 1891:—

Of the above 270 cases certified last year only 7 were
notified by householders.
The Act continues to work quite satisfactorily, and none
of the friction that was foretold by its opponents has
occurred.
An outbreak of Diphtheria occurred in Bourdon Buildings
in October and November, chiefly among children attending
the South Street Schools. Proper precautions were
taken and the disease stamped out. An inspection was
subsequently made on behalf of the Local Government
Board by Mr. Sweeting, who concluded that the disease
