or persons inhabiting it, and that due provision is made for
their sanitary requirements. This Act has been since
amended, so as to make the maximum rental of each
dwelling, £20 per annum, instead of 7s. 6d. per week.
Where such certificate is granted, the Assessment of such
a dwelling to inhabited house duty, is to be discharged by
the Commissioners of the Inland Revenue.
The "Housing of the Working Classes Act," which gives
extensive powers for dealing with unhealthy Areas, with
Insanitary buildings, and with buildings which obstruct the
free access of light and air to other buildings, (compensation
to the owners being provided for) and the "Infectious
Disease Prevention Act," which provides for the inspection
of Dairies, giving power to prohibit the supply of Milk in
certain cases, for the cleansing and disinfecting of premises,
bedding, &c., for punishing persons who cease to occupy
infected houses without disinfecting them or giving notice
to the owners, or who give false answers to persons
negociating for the hire of such houses, and for the disposal
of the bodies of persons who have died of Infectious
Diseases, and for the disinfection of Public Conveyances,
&c., &c.
