From Table IV. we find that the birth-rate of the Mayfair
sub-district (including the former sub-districts of Hanover
Square and Mayfair) was 13.74, and that of the Belgravia
sub-district 21.31, and that the corrected death-rate of the
Mayfair sub-district was 13.47, or somewhat higher than
that of last year, while the corrected death-rate of the
Belgravia sub-district was 17.38. or rather lower than that
of 1887.
Table IVa, in which the birth-rates and death-rates of
the sub-districts for the last ten years are given, shows that
the birth-rate of the Mayfair sub-district is lower than that
recorded for either Hanover Square or Mayfair during any
year before 1887, and that that of the Belgravia sub-district
is lower than any rate recorded for that sub-district during
the last 10 years, and that the same is true of the birth-rate
of the Parish generally; also that the death-rate of the
Belgravia sub-district (17.38) is lower than that recorded
in any previous year since 1883, when it was 16.99.
From the birth and death rates in Table IVa. I have
calculated as usual, the mean duration of life in the Parish,
and in each of the sub-districts, during the year 1888, and
have found them as follows:—
Mean Duration of Life.
Mayfair Sub-District 73.60.
Belgravia 52.89.
Whole Parish 58.37.
