From the birth-rates and death-rates in Table IYa., I
have calculated the mean duration of life in the Parish
and in each of the Sub-Districts during the year 1883,
and found them as follows :—
Mean Duration or Life.
Hanover Square Sub-District - 63-77 years.
Mayfair 72.62 „
Belgravia 51.83 „
Whole Parish 55.09 „
The mean duration of life in this Parish during the last
9 years has been as follows :—
In 1875 it was 46.67 years.

„ 1879 „ 48.55 „
„ 1880 „ 58.01 „
„ 1881 „ 50.26 „
„ 1882 „ 52.56 „

So that the mean duration of life in this Parish during
those 9 years has averaged 50.74 years.
The mean duration of life in London during the last 6
years has been, according to my calculations, as follows:—
In 1878 it was 34.24 years.

„ 1883 „ 37.88 „
So that the mean duration of life in this Parish has been
increased by 9 years since 1875, and that in London by
more than 31/2 years since 1879.
