Valuation Bill.
A Bill to consolidate and amend the laws relating to
the value of property for the purpose of rates and taxes.
By this Bill it was proposed to repeal the Valuation
(Metropolis) Act of 1869, and whilst most of the clauses
in this Act were re-introduced into the Bill, there were
objections entertained by the Vestry to several new
proposals; they waited on the President of the Local
Government Board by deputation, and laid before him a
statement of their objections. That gentleman promised
to give the statement his consideration. The Bill was
withdrawn.
Metropolis Gas Companies Bill.
The Vestry in two successive years (1875-6) have had
under consideration a Bill introduced into Parliament on
behalf of the Metropolitan Board of Works, to make further
provision for regulating the supply of Gas to the Metropolis.
With regard to the statutory 10 per cent. maximum
dividend, the Vestry passed the following resolution:—
"That the Vestry object to any rate of dividend
becoming prescribed or statutory in the
interests of the Gas Companies, on the
ground that the tendency of such regulation
is to take away all inducement to economy
in the production of Gas."
Both Bills were referred to a select Committee, and
the Vestry, in addition to forwarding a copy of the
resolution to the Metropolitan Board of Works, also
forwarded a copy to the Chairman of the select Committee
in each year. The Bill is now before Parliament,
