Sale and Purchase of Little Chelsea
workhouse.
It was stated in the last Annual Report that the
Vestry had passed a resolution approving of the purchase
of the Workhouse, &c., belonging to the parish at Little
Chelsea, by the Guardians of St. George's Union, provided
satisfactory terms could be arranged.
The Vestry after waiting by Deputation on the President
of the Local Government Board, and consultation
with the Guardians, agreed to sell the property for the
sum of £40,000.
The Local Government Board have issued an order
directing the sale and purchase at the sum named, but,
have extended the payment of the purchase money over
nine half years, from September, 1875. The Vestry have
referred the drawing up of an agreement for securing the
payment of the purchase money, and for protecting the
interests of the parish during the payment of the purchase
money, to the parish Solicitors, and there the matter now
rests.
Gas Supply to Public Lamps.
The Vestry having had under consideration the
desirability of taking the supply of gas to the public lamps,
by the average motor system, after much enquiry and
consideration, came to the following resolution on the
subject, viz.:—
1st.—That in future the whole of the Lamps in the
Parish be lighted a uniform number of hours,
and instead of the Lamps being lighted as at
present (some 4,380 hours, and others 4,500
hours), a modified system of lighting be
adopted.
