Thames Embankment, by Chelsea Hospital.
Upon the completion of the Chelsea Embankment, the
Vestry called the attention of the Metropolitan Board of
Works to the unfinished appearance of the portion of the
Embankment between Chelsea Suspension Bridge and the
new Embankment, and asked the Board to complete the
footway, roadway and lighting, to the Suspension Bridge,
and to continue the parapet wall of the new Embankment
eastwards to the point where the roadway diverges
from the river wall. Subsequently a deputation was appointed,
and they presented to the Metropolitan Board of
Works a memorial from the Vestry, urging the carrying out
of these works, and the facing of the Embankment with
granite, as a necessary public improvement. The Vestry
regret to report that the reply of the Board was, that they
had no power to carry out the work suggested by the
Yestry.
Purchase of Little Chelsea Workhouse.
The Guardians of St. George's Union having determined
to give up the use of the Workhouse at Kensington belonging
to the Yestry of St. Margaret's and St. John's, Westminster,
and to extend the Workhouse at Little Chelsea,
applied to the Yestry to know whether they would be
willing to sell the property to the Union. In reply the
Yestry passed a resolution approving of the purchase of this
property by the Guardians, provided satisfactory terms can
be arranged. The questions as to the amount of purchasemoney
to be paid by the Union, to this Parish, and the
terms of purchase, are still under consideration.
