Sixty analyses were made of milk, purchased in the
Hanover and May-fair Sub-districts, in January. In each
case a "pennyworth of the best milk" was asked for.
Nine of the samples contained more water than milk, and
one of them would be best described as coloured water,
with a little milk in it. The vendors were cautioned, and
a promise was made that their names should not be published
this time. Be it observed that the worst milk was
sold in shops in mews frequented by the poor. The
majority of the samples were fair enough.
