ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH.
FOR THE YEAR ENDING LADY-DAY, 1863.
Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen,
There were 2074 births registered during the 52 weeks ending 28th March,
40 more than during the previous year; of these births, 1055 were boys, and 1019
The births were most numerous in the first quarter, and least in the second quarter.
must bear in mind, however, that our first quarter commences in March.
1470 persons died in the year; and the annual rate of mortality was 26.48 per 1000,
or, one in 38. The deaths were 51 more than in the previous year. They were fewest in
the second quarter, and highest in the fourth. I present you with a Table, in which are
marked the numbers of deaths of males, and females, in each sub-district for every week
in the year; and also with the mean. temperature for the week; you will thereby, be enabled
to compare the rise and fall of the mortality, with the rise and fall of the Thermometer.
