(c) The approximate findings on routine screening tests for the year were as follows:Abnormal
blood pressures: 2.1 %
Albumin in urines: 2.48%
Sugar in urines: 0.56%
(d) The Sir Halley Stewart Trust kindly donated a defibrillator machine for emergency
resuscitation in the theatre. This donation, amounting to £379, will enable general
practitioners to carry out general anaesthetics where desired and at a meeting of
the Medical Staff Committee in January it was agreed that a letter should be circulated
to all general practitioners stating the correct procedure to be carried out
whilst using a general anaesthetic to ensure the highest level of safety possible.
(e) There are now two health visitors based at the Centre, but patients' problems dealt
with by the health visitors are not included in the overall figure.
Undergraduate Education
Undergraduate courses were arranged for two students, Miss Carol Huseman
and Mr. David Olian, from the Department of Environmental Health of the University
of Cincinatti. Each student carried out an eight week attachment including visits to
the Health Department, local general practitioners' surgeries and attendance at Guy's
Hospital paediatric clinics. Both students found the programme arranged very informative.
Postgraduate Education
In addition to the general practitioners' lunch-time meetings, eight very successful
postgraduate afternoon meetings were arranged by Dr. T. A. Johns of King's
College Hospital.
