Consignments of cooked Shellfish showing viable counts in excess of
1,000,000 were detained. Where a consignment showed a viable count of between
100,000 and 1,000,000, the importer was warned that the shellfish should be
used immediately after defrosting.
Samples taken from two consignments of Pakistani Raw Freshwater Prawns
were found to contain Salmonella typhi-murium, Salmonella aba, Salmonella
beaudesert and Salmonella newport. These prawns were re-exported.
Samples taken from a consignment of Malaysian Raw Prawns were found
to contain Salmonella paratyphi B and Salmonella weltevreden. The batch containing
S. paratyphi was destroyed and the remainder re-exported. Samples taken
from other consignments of Malaysian Prawns were found to contain Salmonella
lexington (2) and Salmonella weltevreden (1). All these prawns were re-exported.
