of the Abortion Act, 1967, which is referred to elsewhere in this Report, leads to a
reduction in the number of maternal deaths from this cause.
There were five deaths assigned to maternal causes or associated therewith
investigated on behalf of the Ministry of Health during 1967. Three deaths
followed abortions and the cause of death in the other cases was attributed to
primary cardio myopathy and haemorrhage due to ruptured octopic myopathy (neither
officially classified as maternal mortality).
